Care and Handling Information

As a symbol of your special bond together, your CIWAKA jewelry also deserves care and attention. This page provides helpful information and advice on how to handle your jewelry to maintain its beauty and shine for many years.

Handling Your Jewelry

Your CIWAKA jewelry is a delicately crafted and refined piece. Please handle your jewelry with care and avoid the following activities, which can cause damage to your jewelry:

  • dropping, hitting, impacting, or applying force of any kind to your jewelry;
  • wearing your jewelry while sleeping or exercising; and
  • wearing your jewelry in extreme heat or extreme cold, where your jewelry might suffer damage or where you might suffer damage or injury to your skin caused by burning or freezing.

In addition, jewelry and some colored gems may be damaged or discolored as a result of exposure to cosmetics, perfumes, medicines, detergents and insecticides, as well as to hot springs.

A strong pull on a chain could cause damage or injury to your skin.

Some people may be sensitive to wearing jewelry. If you experience unusual itching or rashes, remove the jewelry immediately.

Maintenance and Cleaning

To ensure that you can enjoy your CIWAKA jewelry for many years to come, it is very important to clean it on a regular basis. For daily cleaning, remove dirt using a non-abrasive detergent and a soft brush, and then dry the jewelry with a soft cloth.

Gemstone Care

Each type of gemstone has its own unique properties. To preserve the beauty of your gemstones, please use appropriate care and cleaning methods.

Diamonds

Diamonds are hard gemstones and rarely sustain scratches. However, they are susceptible to cracks (cleavage) depending on the direction of impact applied to the diamond. Therefore, be careful to avoid impacts of any kind – in particular, strong, instantaneous impacts. Although a diamond’s brilliant shine is its greatest feature, sweat and body oils can reduce the shine of your diamond. Use lukewarm water to clean your diamond.

Pearls

Cultured pearls are characterized by a beautiful luster and natural hue. However, they are organic and can be damaged by acid, heat, moisture and other such agents. As such, pearls may be subject to color change as a result of exposure to cosmetics, hair products, or other similar substances. Pearls may also lose their luster if exposed to sweat or body oils. Therefore, after wearing your pearl jewelry, please be sure to clean it using a soft cloth and store it separately from your other jewelry to avoid scratches and other damage.

Colored Gemstones

Depending on the design, your CIWAKA jewelry may include colored gemstones. How to properly care for your colored gemstones may depend on the type of stone. For details regarding how to care for specific gemstones, please feel free to contact a customer service representative.

Safely Store Your CIWAKA Jewelry

To avoid damage resulting from jewelry pieces coming into contact with each other, please store your CIWAKA jewelry separately. When not being worn, we recommend storing your CIWAKA jewelry in the case it came in at purchase, in a soft bag, or in a jewelry box. Please also be careful to store your jewelry in a location inaccessible to small children.

Care and Handling of Jewelry Parts

Earring Backings

For CIWAKA earrings, the type of backing differs by the design of the earring.

Disc-type Backing

The disc-type backing can be set and removed by pushing on the catches on each side and sliding the backing. The backing should be set at the indentation at the tip of the earring post to lock in place. Please be careful to avoid forcefully moving the backing, as this may cause damage.

Silicone-type Backing

The entire backing is covered with silicone. Please do not remove the silicone. As a relatively soft substance, it is subject to wear, deterioration and deformation. In the event you would like to replace the silicone, please send your inquiry using the Contact Us page.

Repairs

Please note that we will not perform repairs on jewelry that has been repaired or altered by a company other than CIWAKA. In the event you would like to have your CIWAKA jewelry repaired, please send your inquiry using the Contact Us page.
